Consultations – DoH restraint and restrictive interventions draft guidance
January 11, 2018
The NNPCF would like to ask local parent carer forums to respond to the following consultation by the Department of Health on draft guidance on reducing the need for restraint and restrictive intervention for children and young people with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder and mental health needs.
The consultation is seeking views on how well this draft guidance helps a range of settings and services to support children recognised as being at higher risk of restraint. The guidance applies to health and care settings and special educational settings.
The NNPCF welcomes the introduction of guidance on reducing the need for restraint and restrictive intervention for children and young people with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder and mental health needs. In your response we would suggest that forums reflect on the parental experience local practice and how the proposed guidance may improve this. We would also propose that forums consider how this guidance may inform local Transforming Care work and children and young people who maybe on the at risk register.
This consultation closes at 11:59pm on 24 January 2018
The draft guidance and survey can be accessed here.
