Development of a New Carers Strategy – Call for Evidence
July 28, 2016
The NNPCF Steering Group has today submitted it’s response to the call for evidence on the Carers Strategy today. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the individuals and Parent Carer Forums who took the time to contribute their responses to this. Your concerted efforts have been greatly welcomed.
We had prioritised the Carers Strategy as we are likely to be one of the main groups that will be focused on the needs of Parent Carers as carers. You may recall that during the passage of the Children and Families Act through Parliament, the NNPCF was instrumental in having the legislation for Parent Carers strengthened.
Parent Carers span the Children and Families Act (when our children and young people are 18 and under) and the Care Act (when our young people are over 18). We had spoken about this to Department of Health (who are leading on the new Carers Strategy). We had agreed that it was very important, given the legal framework, to have a joined up response from both the Department of Health and Department for Education, in the new Carers Strategy for Parent Carers.
In order to help understand the different Acts, here is a link to a very good guide to the Children and Families Act and the Care Act: www.councilfordisabledchildren.org.uk/media/548760/Care-Act-and-CFA-link-PFA-2014.pdf
