Independent Supporters – NNPCF Position Statement
July 22, 2014
There has recently been much discussions about the Independent Support programme including the tender process for the delivery of this work. The NNPCF Steering Group has considered the situation carefully and we are today publishing a position statement on the Independent Support programme, clearly laying out our thoughts, concerns and hopes around the delivery of the Independent Support contracts in local areas.
We recognise that there has a significant level of concern within Forums about how the Independent Support programme will build on what is already happening in local areas and respond to local need. In the light of this concern we welcome that fact that the Council for Disabled Children, who will manage the Independent Support contracts, have confirmed to us that the IS contracts will require the delivery organisation in each area to work directly with Parent Carer Forums. This will include Parent Carer Forums being involved in the development of a local referral process for IS and the development of a Memorandum of Understanding between the IS agency, the local authority, Parent Partnership Service, Parent Carer Forum, and where appropriate with other local delivery partners.
We hope that the NNPCF position statement is useful to you and please do continue to share your thoughts and experiences with us.
