Information Sharing and Data Linkage
March 25, 2015
The Children and Young People’s Health Outcomes Forum (CYPOF), an independent expert group set up by Department of Health Ministers, identified information sharing as an area that needed improvement and recommended, in their Report published in July 2012, that the “NHS Number should be used as the unique identifier to bring together health, education and social care data for all children and young people”.
The CYPOF has set up a Theme Group on Information Sharing to look at how progress can be made on this issue. The Theme Group is seeking the views of children and young people and would welcome the views of parents.
Against this background, the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) has been asked for its views by the Forum’s Theme Group on Information Sharing. A series of questions was sent to the Steering Group which were sent to Parent Forums for comment too.
Many thanks to all of the forums who provided information and views about the Information Sharing Paper. The NNPCF completed a response incorporating views from parent carer forums which can be read here.
The Department of Health responded as follows:
“Thanks very much for sending through the report and for all the work in compiling it. It is really helpful to have the views of parents on this issue which is of such importance to the Children and Young People’s Health Outcomes Forum.”
