NNPCF “welcome the end of SEND Reform Implementation phase”
April 6, 2018
The NNPCF welcome the end of the implementation phase of the biggest change in SEND for 25 years. Until now, there has been a great deal of focus on reaching this milestone and we can now begin the hard work of embedding lasting changes that will make a real difference to children and young people with SEND. Families that have a good quality education health and care plan report that they can see the real benefits, however we still have a great deal of work to do ensuring that every EHCP meets the high standards that children and young people with SEND deserve.
The heart of the reforms is that education, health and social care services work together to deliver personalised outcomes for children and young people. Where this happens, it makes a real difference to families’ lives. However, we have some work to do before this is the new norm and all families with SEND can say they are seeing the benefits of joint working.
When NNPCF Co-Chairs met with Minister for the DfE, Nadhim Zahawi, we shared our position making it clear that we see a long road ahead of us to ensure continued commitment to the SEND agenda and improving the experiences of families across England.
