SEN Support Talking Point and latest SEND data
July 29, 2018
The NNPCF have developed our SEN Support Talking Point . This reflects upon statistics released from the DfE in January 2018 alongside other data sources and our own members survey carried out this year, all are cited within the talking point.
The highlights of our report include:
- Concerns raised by parent carer forums about the lack of inclusivity in schools
- Increasing accounts of children being ‘unofficially excluded’
- Lack of funding being cited as a reason why some childrens needs cannot be met in schools
The rest of our talking point explores recommendations we feel could improve the offer of SEN Support in schools and colleges. The evidence we have collated and reviewed demonstrates that SEN Support has the potential to be a valuable mechanism to provide the right support and meet the needs of children and young people with SEN. However; it needs to be properly resourced, early identification of needs improved, and ongoing training provided to ensure it is effective, with robust moderation in place to monitor its implementation and outcomes.
